Mental Health Awareness Week: 11-17 May 2026

“The qualities required to work in compassion driven roles attracts people with caring hearts who believe passionately in what they are doing, but it also makes them vulnerable to working crazy hours and pouring themselves in heart and soul.” - Chris Dunkerley, head of psychological services at HealthLink360

This Mental Health Awareness Week (11-17 May), we are thinking of the many global workers who are passionate about effecting change in the world we live in. Working and serving in cross-cultural environments can be hugely rewarding, but it can also present struggles and strains that are only felt and experienced by the workers and their families.

At HealthLink360, our team of clinical psychologists and counsellors offer tailored support to agencies, employers and the workers they care for, internationally and in the UK.

For over 40 years, we have been committed to providing high quality, industry-standard counselling and psychological therapy with the bonus of in-depth understanding and experience of the unique issues that global workers can bring. We understand the situation of the worker on the one hand, and the agency and home culture on the other hand. Our services include:

  • Pre-Assignment

We provide support even before someone starts a new assignment or role. Whether it's a call to ministry, a short-term international trip, volunteer placement, long-term assignment, or high-risk deployment, our assessments can help agencies/employers and individuals identify wellbeing related considerations.

  • During Assignment

Sometimes volunteers and workers require mental health support in the middle of a project. Some of our services are designed for those coming home for a break before returning again, but we are also highly experienced in arranging help remotely; wherever in the world people might be based. Members of UK-based or head office teams may also benefit from our services.

  • Post Assignment

Overseas assignments can be great, but they can also lead to burnout, posttraumatic stress, anxiety, difficulties adjusting back to the home culture, and a range of other issues. For 40 years our team have been supporting individuals and families returning home from overseas assignments as they make the transition back to life in the UK, sometimes whilst they are still processing tough or life-changing experiences. Our reviews are also adaptable to those based in the UK working in similar compassionate and people-centred roles.

Almost all of what we do is delivered remotely via Teams or Zoom. We can be speaking to people in Bolivia, Cambodia, Iraq or Malawi all in the same day.
