Overview

At HealthLink360, we have over 37 years’ experience of delivering psychological care to mission and humanitarian agencies. What sets us apart is that our team, many of whom have lived and worked abroad themselves, have a real understanding and insight into the circumstances and issues facing global workers and volunteers. Over the years, we have helped many agencies meet their duty of care by supporting workers every step of the way; before they go, during their assignment and when they return, whether it be for short placements or on longer or high-risk projects. Many of these services can be provided remotely via a range of platforms which allows us to welcome clients from around the world.

Our services - Remote or In-person

  • Pre-Deployment Resilience Assessment

This is a brief assessment of psychological resilience for undertaking what is usually a humanitarian deployment. The individual is sent a link to complete an in-depth online resilience questionnaire. This is reviewed by a member of the psychological services team and used as the basis for a 20-minute phone or video call to follow-up pertinent psychological or resilience issues. A brief report is completed that makes a recommendation about fitness to proceed, highlights resilience risk factors and protective factors, and any further recommendations for wellbeing.

  • Psychological Assessment for overseas workers

This is an in-depth psychological evaluation that assesses suitability for long-term (one year plus) work overseas. The candidate completes a detailed questionnaire and then meets with our clinician for a face-to-face discussion, either in-person or by video. Areas assessed include psychological resilience, self-awareness, relationships, mental health, and more. A written report is produced for the agency and the candidate and, where applicable, includes recommendations for the individual’s continued wellbeing overseas. The discussion lasts from one to two hours.

  • Wellbeing Assessment

The wellbeing assessment provides a tailored evaluation of psychological suitability to work abroad when a full assessment is not necessary (e.g. a gap year, or as a step up from a Resilience Assessment). It also examines what measures need to be put in place for the client to thrive if they go. A detailed report is provided for the agency and the candidate. The interview lasts up to 45 minutes.

  • Psychological Assessment for Christian Ministry

This is an in-depth psychological evaluation that assesses suitability for work in Christian ministry. The candidate completes a detailed questionnaire and then meets with our clinician for a face-to-face discussion, either in-person or by video. Areas assessed include psychological resilience, self-awareness, relationships, mental health, and more. A written report is produced for the church and the candidate and, where applicable, includes recommendations for the individual’s continued wellbeing as they serve. The discussion lasts from one to two hours.

  • Mid-term Psychological Assessment

This service is part Psychological Assessment and part Personal Review. It is designed for clients who are part way through their assignment with an agency. It helps the client and the agency know how the client is doing, makes recommendations for the future, and advises what help and support they need whatever the conclusion. At the same time, it provides many of the benefits of a Personal Review. The session lasts about 90 minutes and a report is written.

  • Fit For Work Psychological Assessment

This is helpful when a significant psychological problem is impacting on a person’s work. For example, when there has been a prolonged period of absence due to stress. We aim to give an independent and professional opinion. At the same time, we seek to be supportive and recommend therapeutic options and any adjustments that might be needed. This assessment is normally done in tandem with a Fit For Work medical assessment.

  • Post-deployment Psychological Review

Overseas deployments can be great, but they can also lead to burnout, posttraumatic stress, anxiety, difficulties adjusting to the home culture, and a range of other issues. The Post-Deployment Psychological Review is an opportunity to reflect on the experiences and discuss what might be needed to promote recovery.

  • Counselling Session

Counselling offers a safe and confidential space for you to work through issues that are unsettling you or that you feel are holding you back. It is a non-judgemental relationship and gives time to focus on what you feel is important. The emphasis is on helping you to find your own solutions rather than telling you what you should do.

  • Psychological Therapy

Psychological therapy is the application of psychology to assess and treat a wide range of mental, emotional and behavioural difficulties. It is useful for problems such as depression, anxiety, OCD, PTSD, panic attacks, phobias, burnout, anger, addictions, and more. We most commonly use cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), which usually requires between 6 and 12 sessions with a psychologist.

  • Personal Review

Adult (16+) 90 minutes

This is an unhurried, confidential time with an experienced therapist in which to reflect on the overseas experience, including work, relationships, and issues faced. It is both structured and client-focused and aims to strengthen psychological wellbeing. Normally, no report is sent to the agency unless requested by the client.

  • Extended Personal Review

This is for clients who have had a particularly tough time overseas involving conflict, strained relationships or other significant difficulties. A number of appointments are concentrated over two to four days. They provide an opportunity to evaluate the impact of the experiences, assess coping strategies, and make recommendations for future psychological wellbeing. The initial session is 90 minutes whilst subsequent sessions are one hour each.

Initial Session of 90 minutes

Subsequent Sessions of 60 minutes

  • Personal Review (Child)

Even quite young children (eight and above) can enjoy and benefit from their own talk-time. This is an opportunity for them to reflect in a safe, understanding and comfortable environment. Mum or Dad can be present if they wish.
